Alice Neel: What we don't see in painting

I met Alice Neel's paintings as an undergrad student.  A professor introduced her as a radical artist painting what we don't see in the history of painting such as a nude pregnant woman or a male odalisque. I thought it was more radical that she was making figurative work at the time.  This long overdue retrospective at the Met is open through the first of August. I'll post more images soon. Roberta Smith's review in the Times details the significance of Neel's work as well as the fact that this exhibition is the first time the Tisch Galleries at the Met have presented the work of a female artist.
