Nicole Eisenmen, that show was A LOT

The Nicole Eisenmen show at the MCA Chicago was a lot in many ways.  While it disappointingly included minimal sculpture, the rest of the show was filled with great insight into her practice and deep love of materiality. I've seen many of the larger works in the show in other exhibitions, but this painting  "Weeks on the Train" depicting Eisenmen's friend and writer Laurie Weeks, I've only seen in reproduction.  What a gift to see it in person, especially the many surprising details that photography cannot capture, the cat in the duffle next to Weeks, the real flowers in the paint, and the loving detail with which Weeks is painted in comparison to zombie sleeper and cartoony watcher in the seats in front.
