Alison Elizabeth Taylor's Marquetry and Interview

Here are a couple of works from Alison Elizabeth Taylor's exhibition at James Cohen Gallery. Roberta Smith wrote
“Silver Fox” is an elegant, playful riff on wood grain made from various kinds of veneer in tones of brown, gray and silver. They are assembled into an ambiguous image that alternately reads as flat and abstract, and as cavernous and scary (something like a Charles Burchfield); big, noticeably fake facsimiles of wood knots add to the spatial confusion.

For Taylor, marquetry is a way to explore nature's role in contemporary society, with an eye to current world ecological (and economic) crises.
