Fred Tomaselli was interviewed by
Paul Laster in advance of his exhibition at
James Cohan Gallery. They discussed his incorporation of the New York Times into his studio work, what images attack him and his materials and of course his process. In response to Laster's question about selecting images above the fold Tomaselli responds..
As a collagist, I’m basically a collectivist working with the images of others. Similarly, the Times is a hive of writers, editors and photographers who highlight what they want us to know, or think we should know. I see my role as being another editor, putting my subjective spin on top of their allegedly objective reality. more
