Abraham Adams reviewed the Trenton Doyle Hancock exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Following along my recent theme of the grotesque in portraiture, Adams refers to Hancocks
baroque grotesque, from portraits whose emetic intricacy recalls George Grosz to centerless, Boschian tableaux.
The review is available on Artforum here. More images from Hancock's show Skin and Bones: 20 Years of Drawing
Trenton Doyle Hancock, Self-Portrait with Tongue, 2010, acrylic and mixed media on paper, 11 × 8 1/4"
