I saw
Rebecca Nesses work in October at
1969 Gallery and was revisiting the images today. The focus on hands, what they do and how they move through the composition, was very satisfying. The same is true about the paint application from traditional brush work to scraping to sgraffito, texture moves around the canvas fluidly. The work is both intimate and anonymous, and like her self-portrait, concealing and revealing, in the most literal sense.
